CATALYST II
by Factor Eight & Nano Clow
While I was in London, UK, @nanoclow and I had the opportunity to showcase a rendition of our project ‘CATALYST’ at @abodytowhichweallbelong by @servingthepeople.
The original plinth was transported from Saskatoon to the UK and reimagined for this exhibition. We built a second wooden plinth to hold an old computer monitor and speakers that would play a super-cut of (in)famous YouTube apologies.
Similarly to CATALYST, the knobs on the main plinth were wired to distort different aspects of the video and audio presenting thousands of possible augmentations and subsequent distortions.
As an interactive audio/visual sculpture, CATALYST II engages with the space that public/influencer apologies occupy. The project cultivates a dialogue and encourages reflection on our individual relationships with the internet and personality.
I am grateful that my travels in Europe coincided with this exhibition. It was so exciting to be able to showcase a project in London with Nano, and to have met other artists and new friends. Thank you to everyone who interacted with the piece and for the positive response.
Many thanks to @servingthepeople @abodytowhichweallbelong, and @willemworld!
